# Tools and skills

## Tools

A **tool** is something an agent can use: look up your context, search the web, read your library, read documents, ask you a form or quiz, manage goals, and more. Tools are grouped by what they do, such as **Know** and **Ask and show**.

Open the **Tools** tab in a chat to switch each one on or off. A tool that is off cannot be used by the agent.

Some tools are marked **Soon**. They are on the way.

## Skills

A **skill** is a set of instructions that teaches an agent how to do something well, for example how to coach for an exam. Skills have their own page. You can see which skills each agent has.

## Why switches matter

You decide what an agent may touch. If you would rather an agent did not read your library, switch the library off for that agent.
